Another Exciting New Washburne/SYOTOS Band Release

Cover

Fields of Moons promises to be another Chris Washburne/SYOTOS band classic. Chris Washburne describes the album as “.. a quieter side of SYOTOS with a collection of lilting lullabies, evocative ballads and alluring songs of love."

They push the genre of Latin Jazz into uncharted waters with a postmodern mix that embraces dissonance, weaving contemporary up-tempo beats with a driving sound, or as the New York Times states "SYOTOS plays with fire with erudition!" Syotos was founded twenty years ago and has become what Time Out New York calls a "Latin Jazz institution." They have held the longest running Latin jazz gig in the city's history, playing every week for the past twenty years. This release is also a celebration of that anniversary. They are one of the busiest and most in demand Latin jazz groups in New York.

Klein's Sunday Morning Receives Rave Reviews

Cover

"Sunday Morning" is the first in a series of CD recordings by Randy Klein titled, ‘Two Duos’. Released in May, the disc continues to garner press acclaim and radio attention.

"The album’s 12 tunes split evenly between the two duos... result is a record deeply involved with a languorous, moody blues-tinged music that can stir the soul even if the body remains reclined" writes Matt Marshall from Jazz Inside Magazine.

JazzChicago adds, "'House on the Hill' features Washburne's honeyed tones and Klein's jaunty piano in perfect sync, while the jittery "I've Got an Itch" will produce a smile. Much of the output is perfect to relax to, and the amount of depth and beauty produced by these duets is astonishing."

This recording features trombonist, Chris Washburne and Russian saxophonist, Oleg Kireyev, in an interpretive solo setting with piano accompaniment by Randy Klein.

National Endowment for the Arts Names Jazzhead's Dave Liebman a 2011 NEA Jazz Master

Cover

In Liebman's own words, "It is an honor to be recognized by the country where jazz was born and raised. Most of all, it is gratifying to join such a select and prestigious group of past Jazz Masters recipients." Among this group are many artists who have in one way or the other provided the knowledge and wisdom that inspired me and those of my generation to become the best we could. I thank my family, the musicians with whom I have played and others who have supported me through the years. Like the music, getting this award is truly a group effort"

David Liebman has shown an ability to play in any style of jazz, especially on what has become his instrument of choice, the soprano sax. In addition, he has been a strong advocate of the music, having founded the International Association of Schools of Jazz (IASJ), an organization dedicated to bringing together educators and students from jazz schools worldwide.

Jazzheads Records sends warm congratulations to David Liebman on this well-earned accolade. Dave Liebman can be heard on three Jazzheads releases with the Manhattan School of Music Jazz Orchestra.
