Michael Cherry is Principal Pianist for American Ballet Theatre® Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis School in New York. He has been active throughout the Americas, Europe and China, both as a soloist and with orchestra. Known for his uncommon musical sensitivity, he is one of the most resourceful and sought after pianists in the New York world of dance.
He has performed with and accompanied numerous dance companies and artists, among them The American Ballet Theatre, Dance Theatre of Harlem, The Limon Company, Anna Sokolow, Eliot Feld's "Kid's Dance", Mikhail Baryshnikov, Richard Thomas, Antoinette Peloso, and Gelsey Kirkland. He also appeared in the PBS Special: "Performance at the White House'' with Arthur Mitchell and the Dance Theatre of Harlem.
He was a recipient of the North American BMI Student Composer Award, and received a Columbia University scholarship "Sessione Senese per la Musica e l’Arte" in Siena, Italy. Michael Cherry holds a Master of Music Degree in Composition from the Manhattan School of Music. His teachers include Charles Wuorinen (composition) and William Daghlian (piano).
